The AST Abandon Ship Survival Station provides Floatation, Water, and Signals (Three main componets needed for survival when you do not have a liferaft).

Contents Include:

  • LandFall Navigation Abandon Ship Bag
  • Six (6) Stearns 0275 Manual Inflata-Belt Lifevests w/AST Signal Kit installed on each belt. (The AST Signal Kit contains; Space Blanket, Signal Mirror, Whistle, Rescue Laser Flare, and a Sea Dye Marker).
  • ACR iPro GlobalFix EPIRB. (Attached by 10 foot tether). The ACR iPro has a digital window that displays your Lat/Long position and shows you that it is transmitting your distress signal.
  • ICOM M34 Floating/Waterproof VHF Radio. Use this radio to vector your searchers to you.
  • Six (6) Land Shark Thermal Protection Bags. This bright colored thermal bag not only keeps your body heat within, it also keeps them pesky critters from biting at your toes (The wearing of a lifevest.is required for this).
  • PUR Survivor 6 Watermaker. Pumping action provides an ounce of drinking water in less than two minutes.
  • Twelve-(12) Water Packets. Do not ration your water, Drink, drink, drink! Stay ahead of dehydration. Although this kit has a watermaker, drink this water up-front for re-newed strength. Water Storage Bags Included (2 ea.).
  • Six (6) 2400 Calorie Food Bars
  • 12 Feet Nylon Parachute Cord, (6 ea.) Use to secure equipment to yourself or to tether survivors together.

Although a liferaft is an excellent idea, I have designed this floating survival station as a provider for the next best thing, lifevests. Once on, the 33.7 lbs. of buoyancy from these lifevests will elevate your body higher out of the water giving you a better survival posture and will also allow you to assume the Heat Escape Lessening Position. Easy-On Instructions:

  1. Place Inflata-Belt tightly around waist and snap closed.
  2. Open pouch by pulling on Velcro.
  3. Pull bladder up and around your head.
  4. Inflate by pulling lanyard or blowing air in oral inflation tube.

Note: Partial de-flation of a lifevest may be required before attempting to enter a liferaft.

Once the vests are on, pull out the LandShark Thermal Protection Bag and climb inside. The bright red color is very visable from a distance and it will stop the heat robbing water convection caused by moving water and will help trap your body heat inside. Another advantage is that it discourages and prevents nibbles and stings from sea preditors.

Need signals? No problem, the ACR iPro EPIRB is broadcasting your vessel name, home telephone number, and your precise LAT/LONG position to search and rescue seconds after turned on. For closer contacts, your lifevest is loaded with signals that will catch a searchers eye from 60 miles out or flying directly over you!
